Beyond the On-Line Brochure: Putting a Firm's Site to Work
Distributing documents via the Web would seem to have no
downside: The material is instantly available to millions of individuals
at no charge. But there is one caveat.

Disclosure of Year 2000 Issues
On July 29, the Securities and Exchange Commission released an
interpretation document (the "Release") regarding disclosure of Year
2000 issues. The Release provides the SEC's guidance "based on the
current requirements of the federal securities laws" with respect to the
need to make, and the contents of, such disclosure in corporate filings
with the SEC.

E-Mail Communications Retain Evidentiary Privilege Under CPLR
The relationship between E-mail and privileges has long been a
subject of debate, and some confusion. Now an amendment to the
CPLR attempts to clarify the matter: A privileged communication does
not lose its privileged character by virtue of its communication or
transmission electronically.

Legal Responsibilities of Virtual Storekeepers: Rules of the Road
Electronic commerce is a lot like sex: Although it is usually easy
for two willing partners to complete a "transaction," the surrounding
legal, cultural and societal issues are dauntingly complex.

Single-Issue Sites Give Firms Forum to Pitch Expertise
Single-issue sites are a handy way to "cross-index" a firm's on-line
presence. In other words, someone looking for a firm by name might find
its "main" page, while someone looking for information on a specific
legal topic might find the firm's single-issue site.
